I was listening to the Bible and this scripture passage got my attention:
John
5:8-10 • Jesus saith unto him, Rise, take up thy bed, and walk. And
immediately the man was made whole, and took up his bed, and walked: and
on the same day was the sabbath. The Jews therefore said unto him that
was cured, It is the sabbath day: it is not lawful for thee to carry
[thy] bed.
Verse 9 is interesting, because it shows the "voice of religion":
"Religion"
was more concerned about the man "carrying his bed", and not the fact
that he was "cured" and is now literally capable of carrying his own
bed.
The man had an
infirmity for 30 and eight years, and Jesus himself knew the man had it
for a long time. This man was no stranger to that pool.
The
religious folks were more concerned that it wasn't done perfectly right
(in their heads), that the man was carrying his bed on the Sabbath,...
instead of saying, "You got healed?! Who healed you?! Bring us to this
man! Let's get more people healed!"
The
"voice of religion" always points to deficiency, pretends to have some
"secret righteous insight"; always acts as though something has gone
wrong and needs to be corrected; is always looking for fault and
spreading condemnation.
The
Creator, the Lord, the Messiah,... just raised up somebody by the power
of the Holy Ghost, but the religious people were instead upset that he
was carrying his bed.
God help us all!
