EPHESIANS 6:1-3

"CHILDREN, OBEY your parents in the LORD: for this is right! Honor thy father and mother, which is the first commandment with promise; that it may be well with thee, and thou mayest live long on the earth!" (KJV)

THE LIVING BIBLE:

"CHILDREN, OBEY your parents; this is the right thing to do because God has placed them in authority over you. Honor your father and mother; this is the first of God’s Ten Commandments that ends with a promise. And this is the promise: that if you honor your father and your mother, yours will be a long life, full of blessing."

Notice that God is concerned about the children living a long and blessed life. These instructions are not for the parents but for the children. As a child, you need to obey and honor your parents, so that you can receive God’s blessings (God’s best). It is good to obey God. He always has our best interests at heart.

You must be very careful not to befriend individuals who do not obey and honor their parents. If obeying and honoring your parents produces long life and blessings, the opposite is also true. The opposite of long is short! The opposite of blessing is cursing! Many children are cut off (have a short life), because they disobey and dishonor their parents. Don’t be one of those! The scripture teaches that wisdom is justified of her children.

THE AMPLIFIED VERSION:

"CHILDREN, OBEY your parents in the Lord [as his representatives], for this is just and right. Honor (esteem and value as precious) your father and your mother- this is the first commandment with a promise. That all may be well with you and that you may live long on the earth!"

This version is self-explanatory; however, it is good to note that your parents are God’s representatives. They represent God to you. You must deem them precious in your sight, that all may be well with you!

Amen! May the Lord bless us all to be doers of the Word and not hearers only, deceiving our own selves!
